and blake boston as the mitten-less muffin!

Lisanne & Dex invited us to a sing-along at Riverdale Farm today. We had an awesome time; not only was the park beautiful and fun, but the sing-along itself was the most musical I’ve been to since Blake arrived on the scene. I learned several excellent songs (including one about a purple stew that I have yet to drive out of my head…stew wop wop…stew wop wop…). Blake wore me down to a nub: he’s so active now that trying to keep him contained in a strange & wonderful room is an impossible task. Whenever he would squirm off my lap, he would immediately take off for the far corners of the meeting hall (where there were two rabbits in cages and a hall leading to the bathrooms. I think he was equally interested in both those things.) I spent most of my hour chasing him back into the circle and snatching other kids’ snacks and juice cups away from his greedy little mouth, so it’s a testament to the sing-along leader that I enjoyed my time so much.

After the singing concluded, we slowly gathered our babies and headed out to look at the animals. Blake was the only baby without winter boots, so because I felt sorry for him, I let him run around in his monkey shoes. Big mistake - as soon as he hit the ground, he headed for the nearest puddle. Still, what can you expect of a toddler but messy adventures? Mud washes so easily; I just felt bad that I had to chase him out of the puddles before he ruined his leather robeez.

When we adjourned to a diner for lunch, he was just as exploratory and managed to make it behind the counter twice. The second time he got away from me, our very friendly skinny waiter stopped him by crouching down and talking kindly until I could get there. Blake (perhaps identifying this waiter with his friendly skinny uncle) gave him a hug. We were a very popular table, let me tell you.

When I wasn’t chasing Blake, I managed to eat a very fine burger, talk knitting with Lisanne, arrange a further playdate with all, and identify barn animals (poorly). It was a very full morning; Blake slept all the way home and I’d’ve joined him if I hadn’t been needed behind the wheel. Zz.

Don't make me send out the Blake. He doesn't listen to *anyone.*
