funeral

Today I went to the funeral of one of the pillars of our church community. He spent most of his life in service to others: organizing groups, setting up events, taking responsibility. The gap he leaves is huge. He was also well-loved by Blake, who would come to visit the house with my mother when it was time to make Easter Eggs with this gentleman’s wife. While the ladies cooked, Blake & this gentleman would have long talks and wander about the house together. Blake was over this week to visit, and the first thing he did was to look for his friend.

It’s sad when anyone we love dies, but I take solace in the fact that he lived a good life that touched hundreds of people. His love for the world and his gentle spirit impressed everyone he met. I can only hope that his life and the life of his wife will be the models for mine, and that I can leave this world with a fraction of the devotion and gratitude he engendered in our lives.

Don't make me send out the Blake. He doesn't listen to *anyone.*
