lil' pool party

Today I had a pool party for the families of the Original Six. As it turned out, Robbie Toronto & Sydney Montreal had other plans for today; then Dexter Detroit got sick. So it was the Rocketfamily, Ciaran & Kate Chicago, and the New Yorks. But despite the low turnout, we had a fabulous time! After everyone went home, I couldn't believe that it had all happened in under 5 hours.

I could talk about Eva overturning Steph's plate the very second Stephanie got it loaded up with bean salad...or the frightened expression on Ciaran's face when Blake saw him for the first time and starting capering like a delighted chimp...or taking turns in the little baby boat...or watching Ciaran & Blake race each other up the stairs, both crawling up steps for the first time...or Ciaran eating half a jar of squash & getting a healthy amount up his nose...or talking so much that we only made it outdoors well after lunch...or listening to my mom rhapsodize about Ciaran (they bonded during lunch)...or stuffing ourselves with food...or the beautiful trust Kate showed in letting Ciaran chew on Blake's grungy highchair toys...or watching Eva breastfeed and understanding for the first time in awhile that Blake is completely and utterly normal; that other babies are also trapeze artists on the breast.

Yeah. I could talk about that. But I had 3 cute babies in the pool this afternoon, and I know you'd rather see pictures!

the boy shows off his mad baby-handlin' skeellz

blake's a pretty good crawler, but ciaran leaves vapour trails in his wake.
his best trick is pulling himself to standing, which he did at the top of the landing. eek!

don't let the pink dress fool you. eva is thoroughly her own woman.

ciaran's out and a-boat

the best shot of the three babies.

shortly after this, everything started to fall apart:

The word for the day is "truckle." I've been reading Master & Commander, and that's the first word I've had to look up since I finally finished Love in the Time of Cholera. It means "to submit obsequiously," as in "the Diarist Awards always truckle to my obvious brilliance."

Heh. Truckle. We should all use it more often.

Don't make me send out the Blake. He doesn't listen to *anyone.*
